Bloodlust or Heroism

Doug's infinite rage unleashed upon unfortunate Larry.

Doug's Big Brawl holds the claim of being the most violent episode of Nickelodeon's Doug. (But places a distant 6th if you include Disney episodes.)

The episode starts on the bus to school with Doug tormenting a member of the A.V. club known as Larry. Doug taunts the poor soul by holding Larry's cap just out of reach and pretends not to understand when Larry is reasonably upset by the situation. Nice one, jerk.

Larry decides to take matters into his own two hands upon arrival at school and slugs Doug in the jaw. Doug, blinded by rage focuses his strength into a haymaker and floors him with but a single blow. Roger and company hoist Doug into the air and herald him a hero for clobbering the sweet bejesus out of defenseless Larry.

Larry Pummeled

Larry at the mercy of Doug.

After school Skeeter showers Doug with praise for his macho act of giving a mild concussion to a fat kid who wanted nothing more than his hat. (And perhaps to not get his head smashed in by Doug.) It is then that Doug's father and Mr. Dink overhears Skeeter and asks Doug if he was involved in a fight. Before Doug can respond his father lectures "Show me a man who resorts to violence and I'll show you a man whose run out of good ideas." Doug reacts with rage and strikes Mr. Dink in the gut and heads home when Larry calls begging for mercy or something like that I kind of stopped paying attention because I was sick with the flu when I watched this and had to throw up a lot but Doug arrives at school the next day and finds it covered in signs saying stuff like "DOUG IS LAME" and "MR. SUCKER PUNCH" etc and claims that it isn't fair because somehow Larry started the fight. (Yeah because Larry asked Doug to take his hat and taunt him am I right fellas?)

POW! Right in the kisser!

Bang! Zoom! Straight to the Moon!

Doug revisits the fight via the miracle of Doug-o-vision and somehow paints the ordeal into an even more gruesome act of barbarism and decides to hunt down Larry's A.V. club friends and tells them that he is looking to finish things with Larry once and for all. Doug finally corners Larry in the A.V. room and decides to broadcast the brawl for the whole school to see.

Technical problems occur and the feed dies, possibly along with Larry.

THE END! No moral.

FUN EPISODE FACTS:

  • The first rule of Doug's Big Brawl is not to talk about Doug's Big Brawl.
  • Doug nearly kills not one but TWO characters in this episode!
  • At no point does Doug obsess about what Patti will think of his violent outbursts.
  • Maybe even three! There are rumors that Doug may have even killed Skunky Beaumont.
  • Show me a writer who resorts to violence and I'll show you a television show that has run out of ideas.
